Suzi Dickinson

“I began lugging a wind-up record player to school when I was seven years old so’s to have music with me and as a backing when performing songs for my friends.

From the start I never doubted that I would be anything but a singer and that’s the way my life’s path took me.”

Earth Day, 2022, at the Kangaroo Hotel in Maldon, Victoria.  Rob George – Drums, Bruce Millar – Bass, Grant Mathers – Piano and Wayne Parker on Guitar.

When I was fifteen, I was smuggled into the Hampton Hotel, Melbourne, between my friend’s parents, so I could make a bee-line for the band leader, Mr Eddie Zavod. I asked him, “Please could I sing with the band?” In retrospect, it was amazing that he let me, because it wasn’t usual for bands to let kids get up and sing with them. But that first taste was like riding a race-horse into the wind. That was it, I knew what I would be doing the rest of my life.

Significance and Beyond Blues

The following are recording compilations and performances over the years.

Significance

Significance is a collage, a synthesis, a mix of original pieces and standards, to tell a story of which listeners can explore the meaning. It is a collaboration between Suzi Dickinson and Wayne Parker and features Ian Mawson, a soul mate of Suzi’s. “Wayne created this collage from recordings we did together and others I did with Ian. He put it all together and sent the CD to me in Queensland.”

Beyond Blues

This CD is part of a record of my life’s work, as a singer and one struggling with PTSD. I believe there is so much to be discussed publicly, regarding the talents and extremes of mind that should not be labelled mental illness…it gives the ignorant the wrong message.
